Solid or engineered?
Solid hardwood is one piece of wood, nailed down over a wood subfloor, and can be sanded many times over its life. Engineered hardwood has a real wood top layer over a stable core, so it can be glued down over concrete and copes better with basements and changes in humidity.
Patterns and stairs
Herringbone and chevron patterns add from $2 per sq ft for the extra layout and cutting. New hardwood often makes old stairs look dated, so we recap or refinish them in a matching stain on the same job.
